Katie Christenson
Programs Associate
My roots are in Grand Rapids, from growing up and graduating in rural Minnesota. I have a deep connection to the land and the people here. I cherish the lakes and the trees along with access to quiet forest, abundant wildlife, and the dark starry nights that define rural life.
There is a resourcefulness in rural communities that I deeply admire. People show up, find creative ways through challenges and barriers, and draw strength from the connections we make and resilience we carry.
I have a strong foundation and love for contributing to rural communities through programming and placemaking. I’m especially drawn to grassroots efforts and opportunities to bring people together through art, programming, and efforts that support the health and well-being of our communities.
I continued my education at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, majoring in Community Health and Wellness. After graduation, I spent the next eleven years as a Library Director in the heart of the Iron Range, growing and expanding in the field of lifelong learning, community building, and connecting people with resources and opportunities.
I’m excited to continue that work here at Blandin Foundation, as a Programs Associate, creating opportunities and experiences that weave people, ideas, and resources together and contribute to connected, thriving, and resilient rural communities.
I feel so fortunate that I get to continue growing roots here, soaking up summer days on the water, wandering snow-covered trails come winter, growing gardens, raising chickens, and being an aunt to all the kids in my village of friends. I’m grateful for a life shaped by rural that keeps me connected to the land, the people, and the communities I call home.
