News and ideas you can use to strengthen rural Minnesota communities.

One community’s “can do”

The Aitkin Area leadership cohort

Last Friday, 26 residents of the Aitkin and Palisade area wrapped up their five-day Blandin Community Leadership Program retreat.

North-central Minnesota’s Aitkin County, home to both communities, spans a portion of Minnesota’s lake country. Tourism and timber are important here, as is community collaboration.

Together, this team of leaders from all walks of community life built community leadership capacity. They learned about and from each other, building and strengthening relationships. In the coming months, they will gather again to chart courses of action that build on their individual and community assets.

Certainly one of those assets is certainly a “can-do” attitude. Aitkin’s website home page encourages readers to “Make Change Happen.” This group has taken that to heart.
