As new populations move into rural communities across Minnesota, local leaders are met with new opportunities, challenges, and, above all, hope for stronger communities.

To share these stories, Blandin Foundation awarded a grant to MinnPost, along with many other funders, to extend their New American coverage outside of the metro area. Here’s a bit about the series:

“Most of our New Americans coverage has focused on issues facing groups living in the Twin Cities. Yet we soon came to realize that some of the most important issues facing immigrants and refugees in Minnesota — and some of the best stories — are happening far outside the metro area.”

Last month, MinnPost published their first article in the series. It looks at how foreign-trained doctors are filling the physician shortage in rural Minnesota.

We will post future stories as they are published.
