Ongoing work to add rural perspectives to public dialog.
The Blandin Foundation brings together people, research and organizations to inform citizen action and assure that rural perspectives are well represented in public discourse about challenges and opportunities in rural Minnesota.
It does this in part through its Rural Voice Initiative, including
- Sponsorship of Minnesota Minute, an Emmy Award-winning public service announcement series celebrating Minnesota’s land ethic in observation of the state’s 150th year of statehood.
- Commissioning of the Rural Pulse, a biennial studies of rural leaders’ perceptions of their challenges and strengths
- Convening in 2009 of its first Rural Voices “Unconference,” a community conference held entirely online in conjunction with e-Democracy.
- Targeted grants that support community journalism, such as at KAXE.org; leadership development of rural editors and publishers; and support for rural programming of non-profit media outlets Minnesota Public Radio and the online journal Minn-Post.
