Clip: Almanac North talks child care shortage

Blandin Foundation grants director Sonja Merrild and Northland Foundation president Tony Sertich shared key findings from a newly released study on northeastern Minnesota’s child care shortage on Almanac North.

  • NE Minnesota tallies $8 million in lost wages each year due to a shortage of child care
  • The region needs 4,500 new child care slots. Adding these could cost from $950,000 to more than $10 million.
  • Community leaders are pulling together and tapping community assets to build solutions that best address each community’s unique child care needs
